Installation instructions
=========================

If installing from a hard disk, using a "bco20.exe" file downloaded from
an on-line source such as CompuServe or a bulliten board...

   1. Uncompress bco20.exe by running it. (If you're
reading this, then presumeably you've already done this step.)

   2. Move (if neccesary) the downloaded, uncompressed, files to a
directory OTHER than the directory where you want the program
      to be installed.

   3. In Program Manager, open then directory where the uncompressed
downloaded files reside. Select the File/Run command and enter
"setup.exe", OR double click on the file, "setup.exe".

If installing from a floppy disk: from Program Manager select
the File/Run command. Enter a:\setup.exe (or b:\setup.exe).

See the online help for full details on program operation (accessible
by using the Help command in the main menu, or pressing F1). Right-click
on the tool bar buttons to display "help balloons".

What's new in version 2.0
=========================

1. Now supports export to ASCII, RTF, and Windows clipboard.
With RTF, items are given style names, "heading 1", "heading 2", and so
so on, depending on their level of indentation. (Attached notes are
given style, "Normal".) User can then define the style attributes in a
   word processor.

2. Improved mouse control over item moves. Can point and click at source and
target items, moving any item to any location in the outline, even
   across hoisted views.

3. The "Read only note" is improved. It's no longer read-only (so it's
been renamed the "Current-note Window"). It's editable, and it stays
synchronized with a regular attached note for the same item, if open.

3. Presence or absence of an attached note is indicated by the item's icon.

4. Search on attached notes is now an option in "Find Item", as well as
   case sensitive searches.

5. Balloon help by right-clicking on tool bar buttons.

Upgrading from earlier versions: There is no change to the file
format in version 2.0, so outlines created with earlier versions
can be used "as is".

===========================
What was new in version 1.5
===========================

1. To enter text into a new item, just start typing (no need to open
the item with menu or <space>).

2. A special "read-only note" updates its contents as you move from note
to note, reflecting the contents of the current item's attached note.
You open this note via "View / Show read-only note" on the menus.

3. Attached notes appear in MDI child windows, which means they stay
   inside BC/Outline main window.

4. Trailing balnks trimmed from items after outline is read from disk.
This allows for a huge increase in maximum number of items.

5. The search function has been added to the tool bar (as a magnifying
   glass icon).

6. No beep during item text entry.

Shareware concept
=================

DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.

Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.

DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT

Users of BC/Outline must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"BC/Outline is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of BC/Outline."

BC/Outline is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using BC/Outline and continue to use
BC/Outline after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
istration payment of $19 to Millennium-3 Systems. The $19
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.

Commercial users of BC/Outline must register and pay for their
copies of BC/Outline within 30 days of first use or their license
is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
tacting Millennium-3 Systems.

Anyone distributing BC/Outline for any kind of remuneration must
first contact Millennium-3 Systems at the address below for authorization.

You are encouraged to pass a copy of BC/Outline along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
will receive a copy of the latest version of the BC/Outline
system.
